One day...

Another year has come and (almost) gone.  Did you spend your time...or invest it?  Did you do everything you could with your kids?  Did you build relationships with those you lead?  Did you love your spouse with all your heart?  Did you spend as much time pursuing God as anything else?  Did you invest every moment well?  The older I get, the more real these questions are to me.  I believe I am investing my life well, but there's always room to do better...play catch with my sons instead of watching the football game...pray with my wife instead of trying to be right...have lunch with one of my leaders after church instead of succumbing to being tired after a long morning...finding time to be quiet and listen to my Maker instead of wondering where my day went without even opening the letter He wrote to me.

I wrote a poem (one of very few that I've ever written!) many years ago that I occasionally re-read to remind me to invest my time well.  I thought I'd share it with you today as we all move in to yet another "new year".

One Day

Will you, one day, look back, and know you've mistaken,
The busy-ness of life, for chances not taken?
Will you regret what you've done, and wish for more time,
Feeling like life was worth less than a dime?
Will you see something here, and something more there,
A difference to make, a heartache to spare?
Will you see an investment, a person to love,
A chance to give life from the One who's above?
Will you say to yourself "one of these days I'll..."
Only to see that you've got just awhile?
"Where did the time go? When did it pass?
Why didn't I do it?" many will ask.
One day is now, and the urgent is here,
Do what's important for one thing is clear.
Too many "one day's" pass by un-seized.
Until all the "one-day's" are gone like the breeze.
