Five Minute Bible Blasts

posted October 13, 2008 at 10:41 AM

This year's Summer Blast (our churches version of VBS) theme was "The Junkyard - Where the weak become strong, the old become new and everyone has a purpose." There were many elements that went into making this a great week - exciting games, fun crafts, special guests, engaging worship and Bible application times, and much, much more!  The most important element, however, was the volunteer leaders!!  As they built relationships with kids, it was so important to model godliness, Christian character and love - it was all about the condition of their HEART.  These short 5 Minute Bible Blasts are what we used to help them keep their mind on the right track.  Each day includes the Bible passage that the story of the day came from (we focused on the life of David in our Bible stories).  I asked them to, each day, read the passage and then the short Bible Blast, and take just a few minutes to reflect on what they read.  Our hope was that they would come to Summer Blast ready to serve with God's Word in your heart!

We used these for Summer Blast, but they can be modified and used for prepping your team for just about any program, special event, etc.  I was just looking over them again and thought I'd share them.  There are five of them, starting with the one here.  I'll add the other four over the next few days.

Bible Blast #1

Modeling a GODLY Heart       Bible Passage: I Samuel 16:1 - 13

David is twice referred to as a "man after God's own heart."  He was far from perfect, but he always returned to God.  His deepest desire was to please a serve God.  In our Bible passage, the key verse is verse 7, where the Lord tells Samuel, "People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."  As we begin Summer Blast, there are two things we need to keep in mind:

1) How is the condition of MY heart? Am I right and walking with God? Am I truly desiring to please and serve God instead of myself?

2) What is my perspective of others (kids & adults)? Am I striving to view them as God does, or am I looking at outward appearances and behaviors, and allowing that to determine how I serve them?

The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them.  Proverbs 20:7
