Bible Blast #5

Modeling a SERVING Heart               Bible Passage: II Samuel 9:1-12

Mephibosheth was a broken young man - literally (read II Samuel 4:4 to see what happened to him).  He was probably in hiding, as David, the new king, had every right to eliminate all of Saul's heirs.  But David, instead, chose to serve Mephibosheth.  He treated him as his own and cared for him in royal fashion.  It would have been easy to treat him poorly or ignore him - after all, what could Mephibosheth offer David?  Nothing!  And that is what serving is all about...giving with no expectation of anything in return; giving when you don't have to; giving when it costs you something in time, talent or treasure; giving...period.

Thank you for serving our kids this week at Summer Blast!  As we enter the final day with our kids, let's serve them with all of our heart, giving to them with the same attitude that David exhibited toward Mephibosheth.

Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you.  Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly -
not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God.  I Peter 5:2
