Bible Blast #4

Modeling a HUMBLE Heart                Bible Passage: II Samuel 12:1-15

Can you imagine how David must have felt when Nathan said those words in verse 7: "David, you are that man!"?  David had blown it, big time!  He had committed adultery, committed murder, and now was exhibiting a self-righteousness that was sickening.  But remember, even in spite of his sin, David had a heart after God.  So when Nathan bravely confronted him, what was David's response?  He could have had Nathan killed, but his heart, instead, broke before the Lord.  He was humble.  He confessed his sin and repented.  Yes, he still paid a heavy price for his sin, but in his humility God forgave him.

This week, you will make mistakes.  We all make mistakes.  That's part of being human.  While we always need to strive to avoid mistakes, it's equally important how we handle being confronted with our mistakes.  Will we dig in out of anger and defensiveness, or will exhibit the humble heart that David exhibited?

Finally, all of you should be of one mind.  Sympathize with each other.  Love each other as
brothers
and sisters.  Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude.  I Peter 3:8
