Bible Blast #3

Modeling a SUBMISSIVE Heart          Bible Passage: I Samuel 24:1-22; 26:1-25

David had many opportunities to kill Saul.  From a human perspective, he had every reason to do just that - after all, he had already been anointed as the next king!  But he didn't do it.  Even though his men were whispering to him in the cave to kill Saul, I love his response after he cut off the piece of Saul's robe.  It says in I Samuel 24:5 that "...David's conscience began bothering him because he had cut Saul's robe."  And he said, "The Lord forbid that I should do this to my Lord the king and attack the Lord's anointed one, for the Lord Himself has chosen him."  David felt bad about cutting the robe of the guy who was hunting him down to kill him!  Why?  Because he had a submissive heart.  God had set Saul in place, and David was to be submissive...period!

How will you respond when:

  • you have a better idea? Or...
  • someone in authority rubs you the wrong way? Or...
  • something doesn't go as you expected? Or...
  • someone asks you to do something outside of your area?

Hopefully we will respond with the submissive heart that David modeled for us in this story.

...submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.  Ephesians 5:21
