An Unbelievable Experience!

My wife & I just returned from Israel, and it was an unbelievable experience!  We went with Dr. David Jeremiah (my Sr. Pastor) and Turning Point, and served as "bus captains" for the trip (hey, it beats not going at all!).  I could write pages & pages about our time there, but here's just a few highlights:

  • Being there was unlike any other overseas experience.  I've been to Australia, Russia, the Philippines, Japan, and other places, but I had a sense of familiarity in Israel that I've never had in other countries.  Though I didn't know what places looked like, I did know what happened there (for example, at Gideon Springs, where Gideon had his men drink the water).  Many of the sites were "traditional" sites, and not necessarily confirmed as the actual sites the events took place, but still it was strange to be standing in the places that you've read and heard about your whole life!
  • The most meaningful sites were those that were confirmed as the actual sites spoken about in the Bible.  For example, the steps leading to Caiaphas' house.  Knowing that these very steps were walked by Jesus sent chills through me.  And to know what happened there, and that it was the area where Peter denied Christ...amazing!  And throught provoking in regards to my own faith.
  • We had "church" on the Sea of Galilee...yes, ON the sea.  We went out in four boats (it was a big group!) and tied them all together.  Dr. Jeremiah gave a great message, we worshipped together...it was awesome!

So many other parts of the trip were amazing.  We are blessed to have been a part of it, and I'm sure will be re-thinking our expereinces over and over each time we read something from scripture that has to do with one of the sites we visited.  You can see what we did everyday by visiting here.
